When intrusive thoughts take over, it’s hard to focus on the positive and much easier to be sucked into a spiral of bad thoughts and emotions. In times like this, it’s important to practice gratitude.
Intrusive thoughts are unwanted thoughts that can pop into our heads without warning, at any time. They're often repetitive – with the same kind of thought cropping up again and again – and they can be disturbing or even distressing.
REMEMBER:
They do not define who are you are
They are not representative of your desires
You are more than what your brain tells you
You are not f*cking alone!
While your mind begins to takes over, learn to think about the things you are grateful for. What are you grateful for? People who take the time to reflect on things they are thankful for experience more positive emotions, better sleep and have a stronger immune system. It will also distract your mind from overthinking. Practice gratitude regularly and you will notice the benefits of this.
